Overall Awards for Oral Presentation
- Sigma Xi Award For Excellence In Research
- A plaque is presented by the local Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society for overall excellence in research. This award also includes a two year subscription to American Scientist, a bimonthly magazine published by Sigma Xi.
Note: There are other awards given for overall excellence in research. To qualify to receive an award one must submit an abstract and be accepted to present. If you are accepted to present in an oral category you must also submit a manuscript (Rules for Submitting Abstracts, Manuscripts, and Posters). The manuscript will count 60 percent of an overall score, with the presentation counting 40 percent. Those competing for poster awards are graded on their original abstract and their presentation, counting 60 percent and 40 percent respectively. Some awards will overlap categories. This means that the title of the session that you are presenting in does not necessarily reflect the award category. For example, someone presenting in the Neurosurgery Session may win the Surgery Award, instead of someone in the General Surgery Session.
