Storage Instructions: Cells degenerate quickly in CSF. Fresh specimens should be sent immediately to the Cytopathology Laboratory. Call the laboratory if a delay is anticipated.

Causes for Rejection: Delayed delivery of fresh specimens, incomplete and/or improper labeling, insufficient pertinent clinical history.See Cytopathology specimens acceptance and rejection policy.

Availability: Specimens are accepted Monday-Friday from 8 AM-5 PM (except holidays) at Room 9.140, John Sealy Hospital.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 1-3 working days; STAT: same day

Special Instructions Pertinent clinical information must be included on request form.
