As the first man to hold the
title of UTMB president, as a pioneer in plastic surgery and burns care
and as a mentor and example to hundreds of today’s
medical leaders, Truman Blocker was one of the seminal figures in American
health care.
Through the $5 million Blocker Scholars Initiative, UTMB is taking the
opportunity to honor this remarkable man. Through this undertaking, we are
encouraging UTMB alumni and friends to provide critical support for the
exceptional students in our M.D./Ph.D. Program.
On October 13, 2000, we unveiled the initiative to the public. On that
same date, we named one of the most prominent buildings on the UTMB campus
in his honor, formally designating the Truman G. Blocker, Jr. Medical
Research Building. We hope you will take a moment to learn more about how
you can play a part in this special tribute to Dr. Blocker.
