IS Enterprise/ Information Design Services
Information Design Services (IDS) offers web design and site maintenance services to campus entities. Webs will reside in UTMB's content management system (CMS).
To begin the project, an IDS representative will meet with clients to gather the information needed to create a high-level scope document and estimate the hours needed to complete the project. A project outline and agreement form will be created, based on the information gathered. Once the agreement is signed, IDS can go to work.
IDS will begin basic work on the site, and meet again with the client to flesh essential details and functionality. Progress can be monitored online, and IDS will meet with the client at certain milestones during the project.
Rates - IDS bills hourly, at the following rates:
• $65/hour: General uploading of content, creating and populating new pages, etc. during the initial project (site creation, etc.). This rate also applies for site maintenance for existing or newly-launched sites.
• $80/hour: Interface, graphic design and site design, including site architecture.
• $90/hour: Programming web pages and connecting databases, etc.
•
Environment - All new webs will be hosted in the content management system (CMS). Existing webs will be moved over as they are redesigned.
The CMS has two hosting options:
Lightly-Managed - The lightly-managed environment is very much like hosting a web on a traditional web server. About the only difference is the protocol used to connect to the web. In this scenario, the client can either update and maintain the web, or contract with IDS to provide that support at $65/hour.
Fully-Managed - In this scenario, each page of the web is dynamically generated from templates and documents within the content management server. Certain areas of the site are editable by the client, right from her desktop PC. For example, a client could update the content (text or images) of a particular page in her site by dragging an Office file into a folder, filling out a web form, and clicking a 'Submit' button.
Additionally, the fully-managed option allows for workflows, where, for example, page edits have to be authorized before they 'go live,' and content can be set to expire after a specified amount of time. The two CMS environments, lightly and fully-managed, can even be mixed and matched within one web site.
